Frequently Asked Questions

1. Are Range of Light Studio Pieces truly handmade?

Yes, I source metal and gems from reputable sellers and work hard to create unique items with quality and footprint on the earth in mind. I use 100% ethically and environmentally sourced Sterling Silver and Brass in my pieces. No fillers! I work hard to support and promote other sellers who create materials in line with my own environmental ethic.

2. Why are there color variations in some of the metals?

The Sterling Silver I use measures .925 parts silver which is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% by weight of silver and 7.5% by weight of other metals, usually copper. The sterling silver standard has a minimum millesimal fineness of 925. Brass metal used to create my pieces are also an alloy:

Red Brass: is actually a bronze because it is composed of copper, tin and zinc. ... Yellow brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. Yellow brass is famous for its use in musical instruments.

Yellow Brass: Brass is Yellow because of its low copper and high zinc content, the more yellow the brass the lower the amount of copper contained within.

3. My items have tarnished over time.. how can I fix that?

Its true, metal alloys in particular can show tarnish even after just a few times wearing them, may I suggest purchasing silver polish from your local grocery store to keep your items looking bright and shiny!

4. Can you fix my jewelry?

If I made the piece and something breaks, please reach out I would be happy to discuss options with you.. with that being said if you wear jewelry everyday like I do- there is a normal amount of wear and tear, items will bend and in some cases break over time and hard use. Please keep that in mind.. I cannot at this time do repairs on other makers jewelry. I do offer a 6 month workmanship guarantee on all my items. Silver is soft but durable and if you wear your item all the time in all conditions.. it may not last forever. Thanks for understanding!

5. Will there be more offerings/OOAK/rings etc.?

YES! I was hoping to roll out a much bigger line of jewelry with many one of a kind items, stones included but alas, summer is here and probably like you I want to keep a balance in life so its not all work and no play.. I do have a stash of super cool stones and hope to make some OOAK bracelets, rings and necklaces that feature nice quality stones. Please check back.

6. Do you do custom work?

HELLS YEAH! I LOVE custom work… are you local to the Flathead Valley.. Come on out to the studio and custom pick the stone and raw materials and for you I will make.. it’s so much fun to create from EXACTLY what YOU pick! Hit me up :)

7. What is in the name Range of Light Studio and why all the John Muir quotes anyway?

Back.. way back in the day naturalist John Muir traveled both near and far and shared his views (literally) with us via his writings and teachings about his wilderness ethic and ideas. I admire his writings, his love of the simpler things and his naturalist ethic really resonate with me. I chose Range of Light Studio as a name because it can embody so many ideas, feelings and concepts. The Range of Light in particular (that Muir speaks about) is technically a mountain range in the Sierra Nevada mountains, but to me it meant more of a perspective, a way to view the world and your surroundings. So, go in wonder of nature and I hope you practice a light hand on the land. I hope you see as many sunrises and sunsets as possible, take a breath and know that we are sharing the same place and space.

Any questions please shoot me an email via the contact form and I will get back to you as promptly as possible..

Much gratitude,
Carrie J
